Sport Contact 5 Tyres description & features

The Continental Sport Contact 5 is a premium summer tyre. The BlackChili compound used provides impressive braking and cornering control. The Sport Contact 5 uses an asymmetric tread design. Larger tread blocks are placed on the outer edge for cornering and braking support. Centre tread blocks stiffen at high speeds and a steady line is maintained by the centre ribs. The 3D grooves remove water from the contact patch.

The Sport Contact 5’s successor is the SportContact 6. The SportContact 6 also comes in ContiSeal and SSR constructions. ContiSeal tyres have a sealing layer beneath the tread which seals punctures up to 5mm. SSR (Self Supporting Runflat) tyres are constructed with reinforced sidewalls that support the vehicle after a loss of air pressure. All appears to be going well for now. I typically went for Pirelli tyres since I knew them, but Peugeot recommends Continental tyres for this car. The car seems to grip better and gives better feedback than the Pirellis. It's too early to form an opinion on how the Continentals will wear, as I just put them on. Plus, I have no experience testing them in really wet conditions, so I can't comment on how they perform when it is really rainy. That said, I'm pleased with my decision to go with them.

While it is very early days, I feel like the Continental Sport Contact 5s do not provide the same level of instantaneous feedback and clarity of steering as the Bridgestone Potenza S001s that were replaced. On the other hand, the ride is a little bit more comfortable. This could be down to the tread depth of the new tyres and the worn Bridgestones, or maybe it's due to the rubber compound or sidewall stiffness of the new tyres. For now, I will reserve judgement on the Continentals until I have covered a few thousand more miles in a variety of conditions. Always really happy with the service from Tyres.co.uk.

These are my second Continental Sport Contact 5 tyres for my Nissan 350Z, and they grip excellently in both the wet and dry. They are definitely better than the stock Bridgestone Potenzas. These tyres perform exceptionally well on my fairly large vehicle. The grip and handling they provide are excellent, regardless of the road conditions. The only thing to consider is that they may wear out quite quickly, and I have to replace the rear ones every 10,000 miles, but given how outstanding the performance is, I consider this a small price to pay.

The new tyres are the same as the old ones, just with more tread. The Mercedes C Class does tend to go through tyres fairly quickly. Since it's rear-wheel drive, the back tyres wear evenly, but the front ones have outer edges that tend to wear down a lot faster from the sidewall pressure. Personally, I always choose premium tyres on any car I drive. You may thank me for that decision one day!

I still consider this early days. The ride is improved over the three-year-old Pirellis which I found got stiffer as they aged. Road noise is comparable, and grip is very good in dry conditions, although I haven't pushed them hard. I have little experience with them in the wet, but I expect at least as good performance as the Rossos. Overall, I am very happy so far.

I had higher expectations. I have two sport contact 4s in the front and some unknowns in the back, and to my surprise, the grip felt quite comparable to those premium tyres. We haven't even hit the peak of winter and the traction is already becoming problematic. I didn't think this all season tyre would have such poor performance under 5 degrees Celsius, but perhaps I'm expecting too much.

I have now fitted these Conti Sport Contact 5 tyres to my 350Z for the third time. They are better in the wet than the stock Bridgestone Potenzas. These tyres provide good grip without being too sticky which works well with the Z's chassis. I'm not sure if the Z requires the XL rating of this version, however the added firmness in the sidewalls seems to help the car, so I have kept using them.

These perform considerably better than the standard Bridgestone tyres on cold and slick roads. I have yet to see how long of a mileage I will get with these as I got 20,000 miles on the original Bridgestones. Also, the look of the "Rim Protection" is not any better than stock, which is disappointing given that the stock tyres didn't even say that they had "Rim Protection."

Handling was poor and steering was even more difficult. The tyre was supposed to be reinforced (XL). In the end, I had to replace it a week later - a total waste of money.
