The Continental Sport Contact 5 is a premium summer tyre. The BlackChili compound used provides impressive braking and cornering control. The Sport Contact 5 uses an asymmetric tread design. Larger tread blocks are placed on the outer edge for cornering and braking support. Centre tread blocks stiffen at high speeds and a steady line is maintained by the centre ribs. The 3D grooves remove water from the contact patch.

The Sport Contact 5’s successor is the SportContact 6. The SportContact 6 also comes in ContiSeal and SSR constructions. ContiSeal tyres have a sealing layer beneath the tread which seals punctures up to 5mm. SSR (Self Supporting Runflat) tyres are constructed with reinforced sidewalls that support the vehicle after a loss of air pressure. I had higher expectations. I have two sport contact 4s in the front and some unknowns in the back, and to my surprise, the grip felt quite comparable to those premium tyres. We haven't even hit the peak of winter and the traction is already becoming problematic. I didn't think this all season tyre would have such poor performance under 5 degrees Celsius, but perhaps I'm expecting too much.
