Ecowing ES31 Tyres description & features

Kumho Ecowing ES31 summer tyre has low rolling resistance to enhance the fuel efficiency. The wet grip of the tyre is provided by the Kumho High Dispersible Micro Silica compound. The tyres have 4 longitudinal grooves that provide drainage of water from the treads. The outer edge blocks of the treads are reinforced to enhance cornering performance.

It has fine slits that help to create braking edges on wet roads. Further, water is drawn into the tyre by channels created. The Ecowing ES31 tyre replaces the Ecowing ES01 KH27 tyre in the low rolling resistance tyres’ category, and is meant for ambient temperatures above 7 degrees Celsius. All of my wheels have been fitted with Rapid P609 tyres, including my spare, and they are very good tyres. They provide a good, smooth drive, wear very well, and have good grip in wet conditions, and I have never had any issues with handling. For a VW Passat Alltrack Estate, they look like they will last a good amount of time, up to 25,000 miles. I would definitely buy these again.

These tyres are fantastic when new and continue to perform very well throughout their lifespan. That said, however, the front set (I had four fitted all together) has worn down significantly faster than the rear ones. I seriously doubt the front pair will survive another six months. The rear set, on the other hand, is wearing evenly and I estimate they have another 10,000 miles in them.

I bought Kumho Ecowing ES31s after one of my front tyres surrendered after I hit a huge pothole on a bad road in the New Forest. The old tyre did 15,000 miles and was already a replacement. The other front tyre was changed as well as it was getting slashed by sharp stones and flint on the gravel road I drive on daily to get to the main road. These tyres are brilliant value for money, offering great grip on both dry and wet roads. They don't seem to wear out quickly as the rubber looks long-lasting and the tread is still almost new after 4,000 miles. They are quiet for a tyre on the motorway and I have driven a bit more carefully and there was an improvement noticed with fuel economy, about 10-12 miles more per tank. Now I get around 485 miles for a fuel consumption of 40 litres of diesel, it was around 475 previously not much of a difference I know but as I fill up the tank every two weeks, this would give an extra mileage of around 250-300 miles over a year. I expect these tyres to last around two years. So let's say I save one tank of fuel over this duration which is estimated to be about £75 at the current prices. Each tyre cost me £60-65 to fit so over time the savings will essentially cover the cost of one tyre.

We own a VW T4 converted into a camper, making it heavier than standard. It rained while we were driving, and the back felt a little unstable, so we changed from the recommended budget tyres to these. The difference was immediate. They are better in wet conditions, overall quieter, and go over bumps with a softer sound instead of a hard bang, if you know what I mean. I should have changed the front ones as well since I have had good experiences with this brand. I will definitely change the budget ones at the front to these soon. When it is wet and you have kids and a full camper, you need good grip, so I recommend this brand.

I bought a newer version of these tyres from this brand and I always stick to this brand because I can't find anything wrong with them and they offer great value for money. I always drive in rural areas and these tyres give me really good grip and they perform well in the wet but even compared to other more expensive brands these tyres are really quiet. They might not be the most durable which I expected because I drive a lot.

They've done a good job. The front ones should be replaced by the 24-month mark due to being close to the minimum tread after almost 20,000 miles and 18 months. The back ones are fine and will likely last another year or more. This seems to be reasonable wear for tyres in the mid-price category.
