185/70 R14 tyres are typically seen on older small family cars and compact saloons. It is pretty simple to decode this example size. The first segment is the width and in this case is 185mm wide. 70 is the sidewall height as a percentage of the width. For this example, 70% of 185mm is 130mm. R14 indicates a radial tyre that fits a 14-inch rim. The overall diameter is 615mm. The taller sidewall increases comfort as it cushions against rough surfaces.
