WinterCraft WP71 Tyres description & features

The Kumho WinterCraft WP71 excels at providing performance under cold and icy conditions. Thanks to its directional tread design and specialised silica compound, the WP71 maintains flexibility at lower temperatures. Water and slush are channeled away from the centre of the tread and across the surface thanks to deep and wide grooves that run the circumference of the tyre. 3D fine slits create additional bite in the tread blocks while also reinforcing the blocks when snow is present on the roadway.

The speed rating for the outer edge of the tyre is high enough to be used safely on the motorway. The WP71 tyre is available in a reinforced version for vehicles that have a higher load specification. So far the tyres seem good, but without any real winter conditions, I can't fully evaluate them. My car has difficulties during winter, which is the reason I changed to winter tyres, and I'm expecting these to do well when the time comes.

I purchased these tyres for a winter trip to Bulgaria, on which I covered about 4500 miles. In the snow, they handled amazingly. However, their performance on ice and wet roads wasn't as good. For one trip, they proved to be much more cost effective than other brands. For future winter trips, I will be sticking to Kumho Tyres. Because of their winter tread design, they are a little bit noisy in the 40 to 70 mph speed range.

These tyres are very good for all seasons and show less wear than my typical summer sport tyres. They only give up a little grip when it's warm. The tread design is a bit funky and resembles that of rally tyres.

As I don't have experience with snow, it is somewhat difficult to evaluate in the wet. However I tend to think Falken tyres are best as they have an A rating and offer good grip and a smooth ride. The winter Kumho tyres are a bit bumpier, but I feel confident in my grip to the road.
