The dimension 225/55 R16 is a passenger car tyre size found on some BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class models. The first number is the width in millimetres. The second number is the aspect ratio: the height of the sidewall is 55% (around 124mm) of the width. R16 indicates that it's a radial tyre made for a 16-inch rim, bringing the overall diameter to 654mm. This sidewall (and tyre) helps to cushion the car on rougher surfaces.
