Eagle F1 (Asymmetric 2) Tyres description & features

The Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 is a summer tyre designed for braking performance. The outer part of the asymmetric tread has large blocks to help with cornering. The inner part has an open design to assist with the removal of water via front-to-back grooves. With ActiveBraking Technology, the contact area of the tread increases the part touching the road when braking. A high-silica compound is used in the tread to assist with grip on the road when it is wet.

Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 is still available in performance car and SUV fitments. It has a summer construction for temperatures over approximately 7 degrees Celsius. Some variants have reinforced XL sidewalls to handle higher load vehicles. You can find the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 on Tyres.co.uk.

Highlights

  • Summer tyre construction
  • Asymmetric tread with large outer blocks
  • Open inner tread with water grooves

Tyre review for Goodyear Eagle F1 (Asymmetric 2) 225/40R18
These tyres are generally underwhelming. They struggle with performance on all cold and slippery surfaces and don't perform well where the tarmac is smooth. They work well enough in wet conditions though. Other BMW drivers are saying the asymmetric 5 is way better than the 2. Runflat tyres are stiffer than normal ones and so are grip wise worse under load. If you drive a BMW and have any knowledge of cars, the majority will suggest ditching the runflats for normal tyres and putting a puncture repair kit in the glovebox. I would advise the same.

Tyre review for Goodyear Eagle F1 (Asymmetric 2) 285/35R19
To clear the surface coating, give the tyres a spin or two after fitting them. I nearly lost control and experienced sudden oversteer because the tyres were not fully worn in. Depending on your driving style, the traction light flickers even in dry weather. They are not nearly as good as the Michelin Pilots 2, 4, 4S, or Cup 2 tyres. Spending an additional £200 on the Michelins, Pirellis, or Continentals is justified. I would recommend Michelins.

Tyre review for Goodyear Eagle F1 (Asymmetric 2) 245/50R18
These tyres don't seem designed for British roads. I've had several performance cars with low profile tyres over 12 years, and I've never had a sidewall bulge until I got my 4 series. I've had to replace these tyres three times in the last year and a half, two times because of bulges (one tyre had three for reasons I can't explain) and then there was a case of a hidden bulge suddenly deflating the tyre on a local road (thankfully not the motorway) after it popped. I tried to avoid these issues as much as possible by slowing down to prevent these issues from hitting potholes, but of course then I had to replace the tyres. Goodyear doesn't seem to deal with issues like these. I only gave them 2 stars because the grip was actually decent in dry and wet conditions and the braking is impressive (the wet grip is particularly impressive). But I would rather not replace the tyres every time I hit a minor bump in the road.

These Asymmetric 2 tyres have been fitted to a Jaguar XJ Sport, and more specifically the X300 model. Runs with a high degree of reliability. Wet grip is reasonably good while feedback is reasonable too, especially for run-flat tyres.

I typically put Pirelli P0s on my Porsche Cayman, but they can be difficult to find. So, I went with the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 instead. The difference is incredible, the ride is a lot quieter and more pleasant, and there is far less of the Ackerman effect (that cold fully steer judder) with the P0s compared to these. I highly recommend them.

Tyre review for Goodyear Eagle F1 (Asymmetric 2) 255/50R19
I'm quite disappointed as they were expected to perform decently in the rain. However, they frequently skid and spin, meaning I have to be particularly cautious when cornering in the wet.
