EfficientGrip Tyres description & features

The Goodyear EfficientGrip is a summer touring tyre for regular passenger vehicles used in the warm months. It reduces energy wasted when rolling using Goodyear’s FuelSaving Technology. During wet driving, its tread pattern with four wide longitudinal grooves helps direct water away from the tread surface. Below the tread, the Cool Cushion Layer reduces heat build-up due to the flexing of the tyre casing.

The EfficientGrip Performance is the next generation of the EfficientGrip. The EfficientGrip SUV is the SUV variant of this line. The EfficientGrip Compact is a small car variant of this tyre line and is not tread and constructively a small variant of this tyre like the other models. I really don't like run-flat tyres, and I don't see why BMW keeps using them! They are too stiff, and you can't repair them. The wheels stick out further than the tyre so they are prone to getting damaged. I enjoy my car (a 330d X Drive) so I might change to tubeless tyres next time.

The tyres have good grip in both dry and wet conditions. The only concern is that the sidewalls seem to flex a little more, giving a momentary feeling of the rear shifting in corners. Once you understand how they behave, you will easily adjust to them.

They provide a decent amount of traction, and they aren't too noisy, but they are pretty expensive, probably because they are run flats. I personally find the tyres to be quite fragile. In the time I've owned the car, I've had to change four tyres as the sidewalls formed bulges long before the tread had even worn down.

Run Flat tyres tend to be stiffer than non-Run Flat tyres, but the stiffer ride is still comfortable. The Summer performance of these tyres is excellent because they have good grip and are quiet. The rest of the year, I use Goodyear Winter tyres, which are great in the snow. Living in Scotland, that is essential, and I enjoy the ride more because they are non-Run Flat tyres.

I have removed them from my car. They were meant to be run flat tyres but they don't stay inflated and just deflate as the sidewall deflates, which means the sidewalls aren't strong enough to be run flat. So, they aren't worth what you pay for them and they don't deserve their premium pricing. Other brands that start with P, B, and C actually keep their promises. I used to be a Goodyear advocate and I feel disappointed.

They have been excellent so far, giving me more grip, which is exactly what you want with winter coming. I haven't done much driving recently so I can't give an in depth review just yet, but I didn't have any issues with my last tyres so I trust that these will be just as good. My only complaint is that these tyres have only managed about 14,500 miles, whereas I usually get 20,000-25,000 miles. I think I will go for non-run flats next time.

These tyres are run-flats, so they will be a bit of a firmer ride. However, I'm primarily a motorway driver, and these are nice and quiet. For a more comfortable ride, I would consider non-run-flats, but because my car doesn't have a spare, I didn't want to take the chance.

Changed the original continental tyres, which were the worst I've had, especially in the rain. Really don't understand why Mercedes picks them. The new tyres are quiet and have great wet grip, no sideways slipping when cornering. I haven't had them long enough to comment on durability but so far so good.

Whichever tyre is fitted, steering feedback is unresponsive and rather flat in the early BMW X1 Mspec. Nevertheless, the drive of any weather can be appreciated thanks to the grip, traction, and security provided by a run flat tyre.
