The Continental WinterContact TS 860 is a winter tyre for passenger vehicles that specialises in ice and snow braking. It uses a Cool Chili formulation, which uses flexible polymer matrix and high silica content, for low-temperature and wet braking respectively. Its Liquid Layer Drainage system features unique sipes (a type of tyre groove) which drive the water film away from icy surfaces, allowing the rubber to make contact with the surface. Snow Curve+ features embedded channels in the tread which, according to Continental, create over a thousand points for gripping the snow, by holding the snow in the channels.
Now in its sixth generation of winter passenger car tyres, the Continental WinterContact TS 860 debuted in 2016 replacing the WinterContact TS 850. Its successor, the WinterContact TS 870, debuted in 2021. The 3PMSF (three peak mountain snow flake) marking on the sidewall signals the tyre's certification for severe snow conditions.
