The Continental eContact is a summer tyre for electric vehicles (EVs). It is designed to minimise the rolling resistance of the energy stored in the battery. The construction is uniquely designed for use on electric and hybrid vehicles. Continental uses Green Chili on the eContact, which generates less heat. The result is less energy wasted as the tyre rolls. The sidewall has been designed to optimise the flow of air around the wheel, minimising the air resistance caused by the rolling eContact.
Continental claims that their design minimises rolling resistance by 20%, allowing electric vehicles to travel 3% further on a single charge. Some models further incorporate a technology called ContiSilent, a layer of polyurethene foam bonded to the tyre which Continental claims can reduce cabin noise by 9 decibels.
