255/45 R17 is the large low-profile size found on many performance saloon models, like the X308 Jaguar XJR. The numbers are simple. 255 is the tyre width in millimetres. 45 is the sidewall height expressed as an aspect ratio, so in this case 45% of 255mm (or 115mm). R17 means it is a radial tyre with a 17-inch diameter rim, giving this tyre an overall diameter of 661mm. Tyres.co.uk gives you 255/45 R17, including XL versions.
