Pilot Sport 4 Tyres description & features

The two main features of the Michelin Pilot Sport 4, a summer max-performance tyre, are its wet braking and steering responsiveness. It uses a tread design that features a two-part tread and an aramid and nylon belt. In the outer tread, and in the inner tread, are the two different forms of Bi-Compound Technology. One uses a dry grip rubber with a hybrid elastomer, and the other uses a silica blend with a wet grip elastomer. Michelin’s Dynamic Response Technology uses an aramid and nylon belt in combination with the tread design to convey the driver’s steering inputs into the road while ensuring that the tread remains stable during the steering load.

Some variants of the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 mark the sidewall with a BMW Star Mark or MO (Mercedes-Benz Original) marking indicating they were made to the specifications of each respective car maker. Michelin also makes the Pilot Sport 4 SUV targeted at lighter SUVs and crossovers and made with a casing that accommodates the weight of heavier vehicles. Since this is only used when the weather is nice, not many miles are on the car. I had to replace two tyres that had lots of tread left, but the rubber was deteriorating. I wanted to have all four tyres the same for consistency. I'm a little concerned that the Michelin tyres may wear out faster than the other brands, but I didn't want mismatched tyres on this high-performance vehicle.

I have Michelins on both my wheelsets, PS5 and PS4 models. They give amazing traction and confidence with my Tesla Model 3 Performance. The stock Pirelli P-zeros are not worth the money, so changing to Michelin Pilot Sport was the correct decision. Compared to lower priced options, they provide great grip and hold for both the wet and dry, and with discounts, they were a good choice. For a car with such fast acceleration, good tyres are a must.

I chose the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres for their remarkable grip and control on wet roads. enthusiastic driving is what these tyres were designed for and I rarely experience wheel spin with these. Performance isn't the only area where these excel; comfort and noise levels are also great. I personally have not had any issues with fuel consumption, and I do not feel that is too much of a concern.

Excellent tyres for my Tesla 3 Long Range. However, when it is close to freezing, grip is an issue. This is primarily due to regenerative braking; it causes the wheels to easily lock. Switching to a lower level of regen braking helps a bit.

I selected the "Volvo" spec tyre which says it is quieter than the standard Pilot Supersport. I selected the new sport 4 acoustic model which should be giving a smoother ride than the last Supersport S, plus it is not as sporty as the last version. For me, it seems to be delivering on these expectations. These tyres are low-profile 30%, which usually means a rougher ride. I chose to replace the front two tyres relatively early as I had pothole damage, even though there was still a reasonable amount of tread left. My full-size alloy spare had an older tyre, so I had both wheels refurbished at Wheel Specialist and had a new matching set of tyres put on. I consider Pilots the best tyres so I'm glad I'm able to afford them. The mileage is very good as well.

This is my second set of PS4s, and they continue to offer excellent traction in the rain with little aquaplaning. However, this set appears to be front wear and out more quickly than my previous set. My driving style is the same; I drive normally and do not take corners aggressively, and I cover the same distances and routes. There might be a slight tracking issue, or it could simply be a difference in the rubber compound. The rear tyres still look great after three years, and I finally replaced them after being told there was some slight cracking on the edges. These tyres can be pricey, so getting a 15% discount for Black Friday on Tyres.co.uk was good timing.

I have had these tyres fitted for a year and a half. Despite not having covered a great distance, they have clearly not worn too much which indicates that they most likely do not suffer from rapid-wear issues. The road grip gives me lots of confidence for safe driving, in particular when driving in wet conditions and during hard braking. I would recommend these tyres to other drivers, I am very likely to buy these same tyres again. They may not be the cheapest option available, however, in terms of performance, they are worth the money.

The Michelin Pilot Sport 4 205/45/17 88V gives amazing comfort and superb grip. Compared to other brands, they maintain their air pressure well. I presume they are like the Michelin Primacy 3 and 4, which start with only 7mm of tread depth, while other manufacturers commence at 8mm. After 3,100 miles, we are already at 5.5mm, meaning if they are on the front, they may only go 18,000 to 20,000 miles. Even so, they are still a great tyre.
