Tyres

Can I change away from run flat tyres?

Standard tyres work in most situations in place of run-flat tyres. If your car has a different method to deal with a punctured tyre (e.g. space saver or full sized spare, or a repair kit), then you're all set.

Many run-flat cars, especially BMWs and MINIs, come without spare wheels, and a puncture will leave you stranded if you switch to standard tyres. It is best to stay with run-flat tyres in that case.

  • Some insurance policies require a call to the company if standard tyres are not the original fitment.
  • Standard tyres are the way to go for a more cushioned ride over run-flats.
  • Standard tyres usually cost less.
  • A plan is required to manage a flat because standard tyres do not offer run-flat safety.

Just remember everything is a trade-off, and read that vehicle handbook.
