The legal position

There is no stated minimum PSI, but driving on an underinflated tyre could be treated as driving with a tyre in a dangerous condition. This is an offence and can attract a fine of up to £2,500 and 3 penalty points per tyre.

What you should do

You can say it is practical for you to follow your vehicle manufacturer's recommendations. The minimum therefore is whatever your vehicle manufacturer recommends. These are the pressures that keep your car safe, efficient and comfortable. Check and adjust your tyre pressures at least once a month.
