How should I store winter tyres?
Correct winter tyre storage ensures their safety and maximises their lifespan.
Storage tips
- Store winter tyres in a cool, and dry environment, away from sunlight or heat sources
- Avoid storing winter tyres near electrical equipment that generates ozone, such as large electric motors
- Store away from fuels, and chemicals including solvents and oils
- Before storing, wash the tyres to get rid of road grime, dirt, brake dust, and any other debris
Storage position
If stored on rims
- Keep them as a stack, or hang them from wall hooks
- Slightly deflate the tyres to avoid any internal stress
If stored off rims
- Store them vertically, and keep them in that position
- Rotate the tyres every few weeks to avoid any flat spots
Tyre storage bags
Tyre storage bags protect winter tyres from dust, and moisture, and help to keep the rubber flexible. They are affordable and help to protect the rubber compound between seasons.
