Tyres

Can you mix speed ratings on tyres?

Mixing speed ratings

Ideally mixing different speed ratings should be avoided. For consistent and predictable handling, all four tyres should ideally have the same speed rating.

If you have no choice

If you absolutely have to mix speed ratings, then the tyres with lower ratings should be placed on the back axle. Your vehicle's maximum safe speed is determined by the lowest rated tyre on the car so be cautious.

Insurance implications

Your insurance cover could be impacted by mixing speed ratings or by fitting any tyre that is under the manufacturer's recommended rating. If you're uncertain about your current setup, it's best to consult your insurer.
