What tyres will offer the best mileage?
Maximising tyre mileage
There are a number of factors that affect tyre mileage such as the type of tyre, the condition it is kept in, and the practices that are used by the driver. Following a few of the practices below in conjunction with high quality and high durability tyres will extend the life of your tyres.
Which brands offer the best longevity?
The following premium brands have consistently been recognised for longevity in independent testing:
- Michelin - Uses long-lasting compounds across all ranges
- Continental - Known for impressive performance in longevity testing
- Goodyear - Excellent wear performance across most common sizes
- Bridgestone - Provides consistent durability across many sizes
The EU label
Although the EU label doesn't show mileage, a good fuel efficiency rating (A or B) means the tyre has lower rolling resistance and therefore potentially better tread life.
How to maximise tyre mileage
- Ensure your tyres are properly inflated: A tyre that is under inflated will experience wear at an accelerated pace.
- Check your wheel alignment: Yearly alignment checks are important to avoid uneven wear as it can reduce the life of your tyres.
- Drive calmly: Aggressive driving such as speeding, hard braking, and fast cornering will wear your tyres at an accelerated rate.
- Rotate your tyres: If your vehicle handbook recommends it, rotating tyres between axle positions can help even out wear.
