Tyres

Do car tyres have inner tubes?

Inner tubes in car tyres

Most current car tyres are tubeless and do not employ inner tubes. Instead, the tyre seals directly against the wheel rim, which holds the air in the tyre.

Where inner tubes are still used

Different applications still use inner tubes, such as:

  • Certain vintage and classic vehicles
  • Motorcycles with wire-spoked wheels
  • Bicycles
  • Some farming and industrial machinery

If you're unsure whether your vehicle has tubed or tubeless tyres, consult your vehicle handbook or enquire at your fitting centre.
