How do I use a tyre puncture repair kit?
Using a tyre puncture repair kit
Some modern cars come fitted with a puncture repair kit instead of a spare wheel. Here's how to use one.
Step by step
- Remove the valve cap from the flat tyre
- Inject the sealant by attaching the sealant bottle to the tyre valve
- Inflate the tyre to the correct pressure by connecting the compressor to the valve
- To allow the sealant to spread inside the tyre, drive slowly (below 30 mph) for a few miles
- After 10 minutes, stop and recheck the pressure. If needed, top it up.
Important
The repair is only temporary. You need to go to a garage to have the tyre properly examined as soon as possible. Sealant repairs are ineffective for large punctures, damage to the sidewall, or if the tyre has been driven on flat.
