When should tyre pressure be checked?
When to check your tyre pressure
Regular pressure checks are one of the easiest and most effective ways to maintain tyre safety, performance and fuel efficiency.
How often to check
Check your tyre pressure at least once a month and before any long journey. Tyres naturally lose small amounts of air over time, typically 1 to 2 PSI per month, so regular checks prevent you from unknowingly driving on underinflated tyres.
When to check
Always check when the tyres are cold, which means before you have driven more than a couple of miles. Driving heats up the tyres and increases the internal pressure, which gives an inaccurate reading.
Where to find your recommended pressure
- A sticker on the inside of the driver's door frame
- On the fuel filler flap
- In your vehicle owner's handbook
Why it matters
Correct tyre pressure improves safety by maintaining proper grip and braking performance. It also reduces fuel consumption and helps your tyres last longer by promoting even wear across the tread.
