What tyres will offer the best mileage?

Getting the most miles from your tyres

Tyre mileage depends on the tyre itself and how well it is maintained. Choosing the right tyre and following a few simple habits can make a significant difference to how long your tyres last.

Brands known for high mileage

In independent testing, the following premium brands regularly score well for tread life:

  • Michelin — Known for long-lasting compounds across their entire range
  • Continental — Consistently performs well in longevity tests
  • Goodyear — Strong all-round wear performance across popular sizes
  • Bridgestone — Durable performance across many size ranges

Use the EU tyre label to compare

While the EU label does not show a mileage rating directly, tyres with a good fuel efficiency rating (A or B) tend to have lower rolling resistance, which often correlates with longer tread life. Our search results display these ratings for every tyre so you can compare before buying.

Tips to maximise tyre mileage

  • Keep tyres correctly inflated — Check pressure at least once a month. Underinflation is one of the biggest causes of premature wear.
  • Check wheel alignment annually — Misaligned wheels cause uneven wear and can cut tyre life significantly.
  • Avoid harsh driving — Aggressive acceleration, heavy braking and fast cornering all accelerate tyre wear.
  • Rotate tyres — If your vehicle handbook recommends it, rotating tyres between axle positions can help even out wear.
