What tyres last the longest?
Which tyres have the longest lifespan
Premium tyres generally last the longest thanks to advanced rubber compounds and engineering. However, how long any tyre lasts also depends heavily on how well it is maintained.
Expected mileage by tier
| Tyre tier | Typical mileage range | Example brands |
| Premium |
25,000–40,000+ miles |
Michelin, Continental, Bridgestone |
| Mid-range |
20,000–30,000 miles |
Hankook, Falken, Kumho |
| Budget |
15,000–25,000 miles |
Rotalla, Linglong, Triangle |
These are estimates based on typical driving. Your actual mileage will vary depending on driving style, road conditions and maintenance.
What affects tyre lifespan
- Tyre pressure — Underinflation causes accelerated and uneven wear. This is the most common and easily avoided cause of short tyre life.
- Wheel alignment — Misalignment is one of the biggest causes of premature tyre wear. Even a small misalignment can wear tyres unevenly over thousands of miles.
- Driving style — Aggressive cornering, hard braking and fast acceleration all increase wear rate.
- Road conditions — Rough surfaces, potholes and speed bumps take their toll over time.
Age limit
Regardless of how much tread remains, tyres should be replaced after 5 to 6 years from the date of manufacture. The rubber compound degrades over time through exposure to heat, UV light and ozone, even if the tyre has not been driven on extensively. The maximum recommended age is 10 years.
