What is tyre labelling?

Understanding tyre labels

Since 2012, tyres sold in the UK and EU must carry a standardised label showing three key performance ratings. These labels help you compare tyres at a glance before purchasing.

What the label shows

  • Fuel efficiency — Rated A (best) to E (worst), based on rolling resistance. A-rated tyres use the least fuel.
  • Wet grip — Rated A (best) to E (worst), based on braking distance on wet roads. A-rated tyres stop in the shortest distance.
  • External noise — Shown in decibels (dB), with a wave rating for quick visual comparison. Lower numbers mean a quieter tyre.

How to use the label

When you search on Tyres.co.uk, these label ratings are displayed for every tyre. Use them to compare options, especially if fuel efficiency or wet weather performance is a priority for you.
