My TPMS light won't switch off — what should I do?
Troubleshooting a persistent TPMS light
If your TPMS warning light remains on after inflating your tyres, there are several steps to try before visiting a garage.
Step-by-step troubleshooting
- Check all four tyre pressures with a gauge and adjust to the correct levels recommended in your handbook
- Drive for 10 to 15 minutes at moderate speed. Some systems reset automatically once correct pressures are detected.
- Try a manual reset using your vehicle's TPMS reset procedure (check your handbook for the specific steps)
- Check the spare tyre if your vehicle has one with a sensor fitted. A low spare can trigger the warning.
If the light still will not clear
The issue may be a faulty pressure sensor, a dead sensor battery (sensor batteries typically last 5 to 10 years), or a sensor that was damaged during a recent tyre change or wheel swap. Visit a garage to have the system diagnosed and the faulty sensor replaced if necessary.
