My TPMS light won't switch off — what should I do?

Troubleshooting a persistent TPMS light

If your TPMS warning light remains on after inflating your tyres, there are several steps to try before visiting a garage.

Step-by-step troubleshooting

  1. Check all four tyre pressures with a gauge and adjust to the correct levels recommended in your handbook
  2. Drive for 10 to 15 minutes at moderate speed. Some systems reset automatically once correct pressures are detected.
  3. Try a manual reset using your vehicle's TPMS reset procedure (check your handbook for the specific steps)
  4. Check the spare tyre if your vehicle has one with a sensor fitted. A low spare can trigger the warning.

If the light still will not clear

The issue may be a faulty pressure sensor, a dead sensor battery (sensor batteries typically last 5 to 10 years), or a sensor that was damaged during a recent tyre change or wheel swap. Visit a garage to have the system diagnosed and the faulty sensor replaced if necessary.
