How should I store winter tyres?
Storing winter tyres correctly
Proper storage keeps your winter tyres in good condition between seasons and maximises their lifespan.
Storage guidelines
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources
- Avoid areas near electrical equipment that generates ozone, such as large electric motors
- Keep away from solvents, fuels, oils and chemicals
- Clean the tyres before storage to remove road grime, brake dust and any embedded debris
Storage position
| If stored on rims | If stored off rims |
| Stack horizontally (flat) or hang on wall hooks |
Store upright (vertically) on the tread |
| Slightly deflate to reduce internal stress |
Rotate a quarter turn every few weeks to prevent flat spots |
Tyre storage bags
Consider using tyre storage bags to protect against UV exposure, dust and moisture. They are inexpensive and help keep the rubber compound in good condition between seasons.
