How do I reset tyre pressure sensors?

Resetting your TPMS sensors

The process for resetting tyre pressure sensors varies by vehicle manufacturer. Here are the most common methods.

Common reset methods

  • Drive for 10 to 15 minutes at 30+ mph — Some systems reset automatically once they detect all tyres are at the correct pressure
  • Use the reset button — Many vehicles have a dedicated button, often located under the steering column or in the vehicle settings menu
  • Deflate and reinflate — Deflate all four tyres slightly, then reinflate to the correct pressure. This can trigger the system to recalibrate.

Check your vehicle handbook

The exact procedure is specific to your vehicle make and model. Your owner's handbook will have step-by-step instructions.

If the light stays on

If the TPMS warning light remains on after correctly inflating all tyres and attempting a reset, the issue may be a faulty sensor, a dead sensor battery, or a sensor that was damaged during a recent tyre change. Visit a garage to have the system diagnosed.
