How do I put air in my car tyres?
Inflating your car tyres
Adding air to your tyres is straightforward and only takes a few minutes.
At a petrol station
- Check your recommended tyre pressure from the door frame sticker or handbook
- Remove the valve dust cap from the tyre
- Set the air machine to the correct PSI using the keypad or dial
- Attach the air hose firmly to the tyre valve
- The machine will automatically inflate or deflate to the set level
- Remove the hose and replace the dust cap
- Repeat for each tyre
At home
Use a portable 12V tyre compressor that plugs into your car's cigarette lighter socket, or a rechargeable cordless inflator. Set the target pressure, connect to the valve, and the compressor will stop when the correct pressure is reached. Check with a separate gauge afterward for accuracy.
Tips
- Always check and inflate when tyres are cold
- Front and rear pressures may differ, so check your handbook
- Do not forget to replace the valve dust caps, as they help keep dirt out of the valve
