How do I put air in my car tyres?

Inflating your car tyres

Adding air to your tyres is straightforward and only takes a few minutes.

At a petrol station

  1. Check your recommended tyre pressure from the door frame sticker or handbook
  2. Remove the valve dust cap from the tyre
  3. Set the air machine to the correct PSI using the keypad or dial
  4. Attach the air hose firmly to the tyre valve
  5. The machine will automatically inflate or deflate to the set level
  6. Remove the hose and replace the dust cap
  7. Repeat for each tyre

At home

Use a portable 12V tyre compressor that plugs into your car's cigarette lighter socket, or a rechargeable cordless inflator. Set the target pressure, connect to the valve, and the compressor will stop when the correct pressure is reached. Check with a separate gauge afterward for accuracy.

Tips

  • Always check and inflate when tyres are cold
  • Front and rear pressures may differ, so check your handbook
  • Do not forget to replace the valve dust caps, as they help keep dirt out of the valve
