How do I find my tyre size?

Finding your tyre size

Your tyre size tells you exactly which tyres will fit your vehicle. There are several quick ways to find it, and you do not need any specialist knowledge to do so.

Search by registration (quickest method)

The fastest way is to enter your vehicle registration on the Tyres.co.uk homepage. Our system uses DVLA vehicle data to pull up the correct tyre size automatically. You will see all compatible tyres for your car within seconds, with no need to check anything manually.

Check the tyre sidewall

If you prefer to check yourself, look at the sidewall of any of your current tyres. You will see a sequence of numbers and letters like 205/55 R16 91V. Here is what each part means:

  • 205 — Tyre width in millimetres
  • 55 — Aspect ratio, which is the sidewall height as a percentage of the width
  • R — Radial construction, which is standard for modern car tyres
  • 16 — Rim diameter in inches
  • 91 — Load index, which tells you the maximum weight each tyre can carry
  • V — Speed rating, which indicates the maximum safe speed for the tyre

Other places to find your tyre size

If the sidewall is hard to read, you can also find the recommended size in these locations:

  • A sticker on the inside of the driver's door frame or on the fuel filler flap
  • Your vehicle owner's handbook under the tyre specification section
  • The vehicle manufacturer's website using your model and year
