How can I extend tyre life?
Tips to extend tyre life
A few simple habits can significantly extend the life of your tyres, saving you money and keeping you safer on the road.
Maintenance checklist
- Check tyre pressure monthly — Underinflation is the number one cause of premature tyre wear. Keep all four tyres at the manufacturer's recommended pressure.
- Check wheel alignment annually — Misalignment causes uneven wear and can reduce tyre life dramatically. Have it checked at least once a year or after hitting a significant pothole or kerb.
- Avoid harsh driving — Aggressive acceleration, heavy braking and fast cornering all accelerate tread wear.
- Avoid mounting kerbs — Repeatedly hitting kerbs damages the sidewall and internal structure.
- Rotate tyres — If your vehicle handbook recommends it, rotating tyres between axle positions helps even out wear patterns.
- Check for damage regularly — Catching a slow puncture or embedded object early prevents further damage.
