Can you explain tyre labelling scores?
Tyre label scores explained
Fuel efficiency (A to E)
This rating measures rolling resistance. An A-rated tyre has the lowest rolling resistance, meaning less fuel is needed to keep it moving. The difference between an A and E rating can be up to 7.5 percent in fuel consumption, which adds up significantly over the life of the tyre.
Wet grip (A to E)
This rating measures braking performance on wet roads. An A-rated tyre stops in the shortest distance. The difference between an A and E rating can be up to 18 metres in stopping distance at 50 mph. That is roughly four car lengths, which could be the difference between a safe stop and a collision.
External noise (decibels)
Measured in decibels (dB) as the tyre passes a roadside microphone at a set speed. Lower numbers mean a quieter tyre. The label also includes a wave symbol with one, two or three waves for a quick visual guide.
