Tyres

Do car tyres have inner tubes?

Inner tubes in car tyres

Almost all modern car tyres are tubeless and do not use inner tubes. The tyre seals directly against the wheel rim to hold the air inside.

Where inner tubes are still used

Inner tubes are still found in some specific applications:

  • Some older and classic vehicles
  • Motorcycles with wire-spoke wheels
  • Bicycles
  • Some agricultural and industrial vehicles

If you are unsure whether your vehicle uses tubed or tubeless tyres, check your vehicle handbook or ask at your fitting centre.
