Can you mix motorcycle tyre brands?

Mixing motorcycle tyre brands

While not illegal, mixing brands on a motorcycle is not recommended.

Why matching matters more on motorcycles

Motorcycle front and rear tyres are designed to work together as a complementary pair. The front tyre handles steering precision and initial braking, while the rear manages traction, acceleration and stability. Different brands may have different grip characteristics, compound stiffness and handling profiles that do not complement each other well.

Best practice

  • Use the same brand and range for both front and rear
  • If mixing is unavoidable, ensure both tyres are the correct size and type for your bike
  • Never mix radial and crossply tyres on the same motorcycle unless the manufacturer specifically allows it
