Performance cars like the Golf GTI, Audi S3, and Octavia vRS frequently use 225/40 R18 tyres. 225 is the width in mm. 40 is the aspect ratio, and in conjunction with 225, means the sidewall is 90mm. R denotes radial and 18 means the rim diameter is 18 inches and the overall diameter is 637mm. That 90mm sidewall is rather stiff and does not flex much which is good for turning.
