Ventus S1 Evo 3 SUV (K127A) Tyres description & features

Hankook Ventus S1 evo 3 SUV (K127A) is an SUV summer tyre focused on performance and designed for safe and effective braking in wet conditions, maintaining its shape at speed, thanks to interlocking grooves and a reinforced carcass. Linear grooves interlock with angled grooves to provide drainage paths in wet conditions. Hankook's Aqua Pine focuses on a resin and oil based compound to provide flexibility in varied climates. The sidewalls are reinforced with a 2-ply rayon carcass and reinforced with an aramid hybrid to restrict growth at high speeds (300km/h) with centrifugal forces.

The continuous centre rib contributes to the steering response while stiff blocks along the corner support the load. It is placed in Hankook's performance SUV line after the Ventus S1 evo 2 SUV. I have not noticed a difference in handling compared to the factory-fitted tyres, which is good because the originals were excellent in both dry and wet conditions. If there has been a change, it is probably that these tyres are a little quieter, possibly because newer tyres are softer than worn ones. I have driven approximately 2,700 miles so far and they still look new.

Only time will tell if they surpass the original tyres that lasted 10,000 miles on the front. Then I had to replace them like for like and once more, the fronts only lasted 10,000 miles. Changed all four at 20,000 with Hankooks. Like I said, only time and miles will tell if I made the right choice.

The new tyres are performing really well. The original tyres that came with the car (Pirelli P Zeroes) did not grip during sharp turns and would frequently lose traction.

The front tyres are almost due for a change, but the rear ones are holding up well. I suppose I expected too much, but the car being a part time four wheel drive means that the front tyres will wear out quicker than the rears. They seem a bit useless for the load of the heavy ID4. Good tyres, but perhaps not the best suited for electric vehicles.

Less than a year after purchasing the tyres, I took my car for an MOT and was told two out of the four were nearing the legal limit, and the car had done less than 8,000 miles. I'm quite disappointed with how long they lasted.

I am happy with the tyres. I can't tell any difference in driving since I had Pirelli tyres. These Hankooks do not have the same rim protection as the Pirelli's, however, they have a much wider fit on the rim, which therefore offers the same protection. In terms of looks, the Pirellis are nicer but that's personal preference. Having driven 4000 miles on these Hankooks, I still have a lot of tread left, they don't appear to show much wear. I have attached a few photos of the Hankooks on the jeep and one of a Pirelli tyre on a spare wheel.

I have to say, these tyres are amazing! I can't believe the difference in grip and comfort. I was shocked at how they performed in wet weather. in puddles on the motorway, they far outperformed the Continentals that came on the car. There is also noticeably less road noise and the car just feels safer to drive. The only downside is that they tend to look under-inflated even when they are at the correct pressure which is a little strange. However, I have no doubt they are the best tyres on the market and have kept me safe in a number of tricky situations. I would definitely purchase them again.

I do a fair amount of driving on the motorways, about 70%, and a little bit in the city, about 30%. I switched from Continentals to try these as a possible long-term option. Overall, they are fine, but I was expecting a little less noise from the tyres and the grip doesn't give me a lot of confidence, especially at high speeds. Unfortunately, I will be going back to Continentals.

As for the performance of these tyres, I could say I was impressed. They seem to grab pretty decently in all conditions and the rate of wear appears to be quite average. They feel comfortable to ride on as well and based on my experience so far, I would say they would last a while.
