SP Winter Response 2 Tyres description & features

The Dunlop SP Winter Response 2 is a winter tyre designed for cars that provides good traction for snow and ice and features a directional tread design that helps remove water and slush from the road. It has a series of tightly grouped blocks in the middle of the tread that have snow and ice cutting slits, which help provide traction for ice and snow. The design and composition of the SP Winter Response 2 keep the tyre flexible during very low temperatures.

Dunlop’s angled cuts are designed to help improve traction and grip for lateral movements in snow and ice. The design also uses a channel system to quickly move water and slush through the tread design and out of the tyre. I replaced the original Continental Cross Contact Winter tyres on my 2016 Fiat Panda Twin Air Trekking because they were hard to find. I chose these Dunlop tyres instead, they have nearly identical specs, are cheaper, and look the same. I have driven about 2000 miles since mid September on many different types of roads and weather, but no snow and ice. I have been very satisfied with the tyres, they are smooth and quiet. They provide me with stable and precise steering. I will be getting a set for the back soon.

I don't have the new tyres fitted yet, but if I remember correctly, these tyres have great grip on icy road conditions. They are also very good on wet road conditions. Furthermore, they are not too noisy.

Outstanding traction on ice, slush and water, and are also very quiet. They also offer a very comfy ride, and while they are expensive, you can't put a price on safety.

My wife is pleased with the overall performance of the tyre. We haven't been able to try it on her car in cold or snowy conditions yet. However, since I've had them on my BMW for the last three winters, I'm sure they'll be just as good on her Mini.

The vehicle came with Bridgestone tyres, which were almost worn out with only 3mm of tread remaining. Now with Dunlop winter tyres, the car handles outstandingly whatever the weather, even at 15 degrees Celsius. They've done well on the few frosty mornings we've had and grip the road well in the rain. These tyres are quiet and corner well, maintaining good stability and responsive steering. I've yet to test them in severe cold or snow, but overall, I'm very happy with them.

I replaced my used Michelin Alpin 4 tyres which lasted me six years worth of four month winters with additional wheel sets, with these "new" Dunlops which were meant to be rated better. To my surprise, their grip is weak for a winter tyre, with my front wheels spinning easily regardless of whether it is wet or dry. When braking, ABS kicks in too often. I'm worried they might be worse in snow. These might perform worse than all season tyres. I do not recommend these and I regret not keeping the Michelin Alpin 4s on my winter front tyres.

The manufacturer claims that these tyres are fuel-efficient. I have observed an initial increase in usual fuel consumption, and I do not think the savings will be enough to cover the costs of the tyres. However, the tyres will cause a significant decrease in fuel expenses during the year. The tread pattern of these tyres resembles the tread pattern of most winter tyres, and just like most winter tyres, these tyres are quieter than the winter tyres I previously owned.
