SP StreetResponse 2 Tyres description & features

The Dunlop SP StreetResponse 2 is a summer tyre designed for smaller vehicles and with a focus on both wet and dry summer braking performance. Dunlop uses their Silica-Plus compound that is engineered for July and August summer braking down to 6 °C. The asymmetric tread uses what Dunlop calls their Shorter Braking Blocks design to distribute and sharpen the braking block edges. The tyre casing has been optimised for low rolling resistance.

The SP StreetResponse 2 is the successor to the first generation SP StreetResponse. Dunlop offers XL reinforced sidewalls for vehicles that require a higher load index. The sidewall clearly states XL to signify the reinforced version. The tyre is speed rated up to V 149mph. Tyres.co.uk is proud to stock the Dunlop SP StreetResponse 2.

I bought these tyres to replace the Pirellis I had before. They grip well and the braking feels good for a 1969 Triumph! There's also a small difference with road noise and the ride feels a lot better. I don't usually brake test vintage cars, but these tyres feel great and give me confidence and a good level of responsiveness.

The grip, especially on wet surfaces, is excellent. Although, it may also be a result of me changing from old, worn-out tyres instead of just changing makes. The Hankook tyres provided me with good mileage, so we will see if the Dunlops are just as good.

It is a vast improvement from the old 20-year-old tyres. These tyres had a lot of tread, but they were very hard. The car, now 46 years old drives and handles much better. This shows that even if tyres are still legal, if they have aged significantly they need to be replaced.

Everything else seems alright. The only problem I faced was when I showed up assuming I had an appointment booked with the local fitter, only to discover that I did not have an appointment. Although I haven't put a lot of miles on these tyres yet, the ride has got noticeably smoother, and handling is much improved, with the Dunlops feeling more reassuring than my previous brands. Also the Dunlops deal with the potholes and imperfections in the road better than my previous tyres, which were worn and had lost their grip due to the rubber hardening.

These tyres being brand new means there is an obvious difference from the old ones that were worn down to 2.5mm. That said, I do feel that the Streetresponse II is a bit more responsive when it comes to turning compared to the original Streetresponse tyres when they too were fresh.

The Citroen C1 is usually quite noisy on the road, especially when the tyres are cold. Fitting these tyres has drastically cut the noise and almost totally eliminated the annoying hum from the front. I intend to replace the rear ones to the same tyres soon and will not be using any other tyres from now on.

These tyres offer impressive adhesion to road surfaces, an important factor for any tyre. I previously had them on my Triumph Spitfire and they were outstanding in dry conditions, although they are not to good in wet conditions. I have taken them to several track days and even at quite high speeds, they were glued to the track surface. This set has done around 1000 miles on this car and they are the best so far, providing me with more confidence to corner than the previous ones I had.

I bought these tyres for my daughter's car. A few days ago, my daughter took me on a ride and it was pouring rain. She was going pretty fast, made sudden stops, and U-turns like rally driver, and did all this without skidding. I'm really happy with the performance of the tyres, although my daughter should probably take it easy on the speed.
