For modern SUVs and crossovers, Yokohama designed the Geolandar G91F as a road-tread SUV tyre with focused handling to suit the traits of such vehicles. The tyre’s directional tread pattern removes water from the tread surface contact area and facilitates surface water movement away from the tyre. The tyre’s treads are formed with grooves that run from the tread centre towards the outer tread with micro slits in the tread providing additional edges for grip on damp tarmac. A solid centre and outer tread blocks support the tyre when driving in a straight line on the motorway and during cornering respectively. The tyre casing was designed for crossovers with a higher weight and SUV AWD capability; as such, the tread was formed to aid in the reduction of road noise and to take care of vibrations.
For the Mazda CX-5, the G91F is factory fitted, and a directional tyre tread design means the factory fitted tyre must be replaced with a directional tyre tread design in the same size and specification, with the directional tread following the sidewall rotation arrow. The design aids the tread pattern in facilitating water movement away from the road contact area. Tyres.co.uk sells the Yokohama Geolandar G91F.
