Toyota MR2 Tyres

The Toyota MR2 is a two-seat, mid-engine sports car. As an everyday car, the MR2’s tyres help with steering, braking, and grip. MR2 tyres are designed with dependable wet performance and handling. Comfort and road noise are personal preferences in tyre replacement. The MR2’s engine layout requires consideration for grip and axle consistency.

Tyre sizes for the MR2 differ for each engine, model and trim giving the MR2 an array of fitment choices. The correct tyres for the MR2 must be the right size, load index and speed rating. Tyre fitment for each MR2 can be found on the tyre side wall, in the vehicles handbook or registration.

MR2’s on Tyres.co.uk can compare MR2 relevant tyres by brand and performance and then select an option to book fitting at a preferred local tyre fitting location.

Steering is more direct and has better grip, while stopping is also good.

Better traction of these tyres gives them better stopping distance. Previous tyres, of the same brand, had more than 2mm of tread, yet their stopping distance was clearly worse.

The existing tyres are doing an adequate job but my expectations for how long the front tyres would last were higher. Most of my driving is local, and there are a lot of roundabouts in this area.

They are beautiful tyres, and they help me to be confident and calm when driving. If only the roads were built to the same standard!

Avon ZV7 tyres provide excellent performance on the wet country roads and the rainy weather where I drive. They help with fuel economy and last a long time before needing to be changed. I feel confident driving on them and plan to put them on the back of my car soon. They are great value for a mid-range tyre.

While I would recommend them, I would advise caution in the wet as they can skid. On the dry however, they are fantastic.

I do not think these tyres perform well and am surprised at them being marketed as suitable for track days. There was little grip and at Brands Hatch the tyres squealed on a dry surface. I went to Snetterton today where the conditions were wet to dry and I almost decided to call it a day because the tyres were not worth it. I think they are only fit to be summer road tyres. I am really disappointed by them.

In dry conditions, perform brilliantly. When wet, proceed with caution.

Having been on the car for a year, the tyres have performed excellently. They handle all braking and cornering manoeuvres with confidence as well as having reliable wet weather performance. They also assist in quite driving and help with fuel saving.

Toyota MR2 Tyres: Your Questions Answered

You can find the Yokohama ADVAN Fleva V701 and Toyo Proxes TR1 at Tyres.co.uk for the Toyota MR2 with front tyres 185/55 R15 and rear tyres 205/50 R15 on the 2000 MR2 Roadster. Later generation Roadsters and earlier generation MR2s may not have the factory staggered setup.

You can find the information for the tyre sizes for the Toyota MR2 on the original equipment (OE) tyre pressure sticker on the driver's side jamb. The sticker includes the front and rear tyre sizes and pressures. Given the variety of MR2 generations and OE wheel fits, check the sticker against the tyres on the car.

Not all four tyres need replacing on the Toyota MR2, as it is a rear wheel drive car. The factory staggered setup should be maintained, so tyres are replaced as a pair on the same axle. Where two tyres are replaced, UK tyre safety guidance advises installing them on the rear axle.
