What should I do if I get a flat tyre?

Dealing with a flat tyre

Immediate steps

  1. Pull over to a safe location as soon as possible. Avoid stopping on a bend or in a dangerous position.
  2. Turn on your hazard lights.
  3. Assess the situation — Can you safely change the wheel here? Is it a motorway?

Your options

  • Fit a spare wheel if you have one and it is safe to do so
  • Use a tyre repair kit (sealant and compressor) for a temporary fix
  • Call roadside assistance if it is not safe to change the wheel, especially on motorways

Never drive on a completely flat tyre. It will damage the wheel rim and make the car dangerous to control.
