Can you repair a tyre with a nail in it?

Repairing a tyre with a nail

In many cases, yes. If the nail is in the central tread area and has not caused wider structural damage, a professional repair is usually possible.

What to do

  • Do not remove the nail yourself. It is helping to slow air loss while it is embedded.
  • Check the tyre pressure and inflate if needed.
  • Drive carefully to a nearby garage for professional inspection and repair.

The fitter will assess whether the tyre can be repaired or needs replacing, based on the size and location of the puncture and whether any internal damage has occurred.
