Founded in 1888 by John Boyd Dunlop, Dunlop tyres is recognised around the world as one of the leading brands of tyre.

With activity across the motorsport network as well as tyres for passenger cars, bicycles, and other vehicles all propping up the Dunlop brand, this is a brand which boasts the value of a prolonged history and proof of innovation. John Boyd Dunlop, who originally founded the brand, was a pioneer in the development of pneumatic tyres – that is, tyres which are crafted from rubber and inflated using a pressurised gas pump.

Since 1888, the brand has changed ownership and sits under different companies around the world. Most recently Goodyear has transferred its North American, European, and Australian ownership to Japanese company Sumitomo Rubber Industries. Elsewhere, Dunlop sits under the likes of Dunlop India Ltd and Continental AG.

The diverse and vast collection of Dunlop tyres available on the market span winter tyres, summer tyres, and all-season tyres, as well as run flat tyres, SUV tyres and 4x4 tyres, and a selection of motorcycle tyre solutions.

Dunlop also boasts a range of different tyres that cater to different climates and driving needs. These include the Dunlop Sport Maxx performance tyre, the Dunlop Rover for SUVs and off-road driving, the Dunlop Direzza tyres for motorsport racing, and the Dunlop Signature which offers unrivalled comfort.

Run flat tyres (known as Dunlop's RunOnFlat Tyres) are another tyre range worth noting, providing drivers with some extra peace of mind and the convenience of being able to continue their journey even after a puncture.

And of course, as an industry leader in tyre manufacturing innovation and pioneering design, Dunlop has integrated several extra features into its tyres besides the market standards. These include Noise Shield technology, the Multi Blade system for winter driving, the Specific Bead Seat system which strengthens the bond between the rubber tyre and the wheel rim, and the Dual Silica Compound which guarantees a low level of wear and tear even with regular driving.

Undergoing rigorous testing at facilities around the world, Dunlop is the perfect brand for drivers who want a mid-range tyre that doesn’t skimp on quality or value. Its performance tyres are typically regarded to sit at the top of the market as premium tyres, while its passenger and SUV tyres are at the top end of the mid-range market.

One thing to note here, particularly concerning Dunlop’s connection to performance driving and motorsport racing, is its partnerships with global events. In 2025 Dunlop became the official tyre partner for Gran Turismo 7 and the Gran Turismo World Series. It is also the title sponsor and tyre supplier of the Supercars Championship and supplies to select GT Series cars.

Advanced technology ensures that every tyre produced by Dunlop prioritises safety as well as performance, with the Signature range notable for its more unique commitment to passenger comfort and to the provision of luxurious on-road smoothness.

You need only look at the number of vehicle makes and individual models that use Dunlop tyres, to recognise the quality of Dunlop’s extensive range.

For drivers seeking advice in choosing specific Dunlop tyres, there are several key collections and models that are particularly popular.

These include the Grandtrek all-season tyres, Econodrive tyres for sustainability and environmentally conscious drivers, and Dunlop’s diverse selection of sports tyres: the SP Sportmaxx GT, the Sport Bluresponse tyres, Winter Sport 5 tyres, and SP Winter Response with added grip and traction.

With so many options and tyre types to choose from, most drivers come to us looking for advice.

Browsing Dunlop Car Tyres by Season

With Dunlop one of the world’s most prolific tyre brands, the question facing drivers is which tyres they should opt for. Thanks to the UK’s temperate climate and the fact that we don’t often see temperatures of extreme lows or extreme highs, all-season tyres tend to be a viable suggestion for year-round driving in all weather conditions. Having said that, Dunlop has developed a leading range of summer and winter tyres.

Summer Tyres

The summer tyres are designed with a hard rubber compound that performs well on wet and dry roads. They offer excellent traction and grip when cornering on dry surfaces, and do not become too soft under the glare of the sun.

Winter Tyres

Winter tyres are softer with more flexibility and grip, meaning that they don't seize up in the cold weather. The tread of these tires can adapt to challenging conditions, displacing surface water and maintaining good traction on slippery roads.

Because Dunlop Tyres are made with an advanced rubber material, using the innovative silica compound and leading tread patterns, they are well respected in terms of durability and control across a range of road surfaces, terrains, and conditions.

Spanning the performance market and the needs of regular drivers, Dunlop is always looking to the future when it designs and launches new tyres. The tread pattern of every tyre is considered in line with the needs of the driver, while the additional features mentioned above improve the driving experience, comfort, and the fuel efficiency of the vehicle as a whole - as told by driver reviews.

When choosing Dunlop tyres, it's advised that you first work out the tyre sizes you need for your car, and then select the season you are buying for (or stick with all-season if you are solely looking for tyres to suit UK driving). Then you can move onto prices and individual features.

Knowing and understanding how to interpret the tyre size calculation is an important part of tyre selection, with our range of references and articles in the Tyres.co.uk Knowledge Hub helping with each step of your journey. We also provide information on selecting tyres according to speed rating, with high-performance and everyday tyres available.

Dunlop is a brand that was founded on innovation and on the development of car tyres that could adapt to the road surface. Ever since the first tyres were produced, the brand has continued to innovate and stay ahead of what drivers need. A high-value and quality brand that all drivers can rely on, with Tyres.co.uk pairing tyre provision with a leading tyre fitting service and the ongoing support and FAQs that drivers in the UK need.

5/5

Dunlop SP Sport FastResponse

I have driven approximately 250 miles on the new tyres and have noticed improvements in the ride as they are quieter than the old Dunlop tyres and cornered better. The road noise from the new tyres seems to be quieter compared to the old ones Dunlop tyres and from what I've noticed seem to perform better at higher speeds. The new tyres are fitted to my 2017 Honda Jazz 1.5Lt and replaced the old Dunlop tyres which had ~22,000 miles of life left to them. The fuel average seems to be unchanged as compared to the old tyres I am getting around 48mpg with the new tyres.
