How much fuel the tyre uses as it rolls. Graded A to E, where A is the most efficient and E the least.
How well the tyre stops in the wet. Graded A to E, where A is the shortest stopping distance. Each grade is worth roughly 3 metres, about a car length.

Designed for cars, rather than vans, 4x4s or commercial vehicles.
Designed for temperatures below 7°C. Summer tyre rubber hardens in the cold and loses grip, while a winter compound stays soft and holds the road in cold, wet and snowy conditions.
Built to handle both summer and winter conditions, so the same tyres can stay on all year instead of being swapped twice.
Extra layers of material make the tyre stronger and increase how much weight it can carry. Usually fitted to vans and light commercial vehicles.
195/65 R16 is the passenger car tyre size for family cars where a taller sidewall is preferred on the roads. The numbers are easy to understand. 195 means the width is 195 millimetres. 65 means the sidewall height is 65% of 195mm which equals 127mm. R16 means that it's a radial tyre on a 16-inch rim which gives an overall diameter of 660mm. The sidewall height of 127mm helps to absorb the ruggedness of broken roads. 195/65 R16 is available at Tyres.co.uk.
