The Goodyear UltraGrip Performance SUV Gen-1 is a winter tyre designed specifically for sporty SUVs. It focuses on delivering outstanding braking performance and traction on icy and snowy surfaces. This is supported by a winter focused compound. ActiveGrip Technology operates in combination with this winter focused compound to increase levels of grip offered by the tyre. The directional V tread pattern design incorporates grooves that channel water and slush away from the contact patch, aided by the patented Technology. 3D-BIS Technology adds biting edges to the tread blocks, and aids the blocks to retain their shape during braking, by forming interlocking slits across the tread blocks.

The UltraGrip Performance SUV Gen-1 carries the snowflake symbol that indicates it meets the regulated snow grip standard, along with the M+S marking. Reinforced XL construction is available for the SUV load requirements. The Goodyear UltraGrip Performance+ SUV followed this model as part of its winter SUV range. I drove another 4x4 out for a spin on a snowy day and it had normal tyres. My vehicle felt like it was on tracks, but I lost grip with both front and back wheels on the same path with non-winter tyres. The Highlands have particular winter driving conditions and therefore the right tyres are essential. I also tried to make the wheels spin in the ski area car park from a standstill in 1st gear and reverse and the grip was solid the whole time.

Due to the mild weather and limitations with travelling, I have no had a chance to use them in true winter conditions. In dry, wet, and cold conditions they seem to perform well enough.

It is not common for me to write reviews, but I felt I had to for these outstanding tyres! We drove to the Alps for a skiing holiday and the weather and roads were awful, with heavy snow and then ice. These tyres were amazing and we didn't even have to use snow chains. I am so impressed with the Discovery's snow traction setting as we didn't need chains. Would definitely recommend!

During one week, I drove 1600 miles, mostly in warm weather, and these tyres were as good as the original Summer ones. I have also tested them at sub-zero temperatures on ungritted roads, and they really provided good road grip.
