The Continental ContiSportContact 5 is a summer tyre which Conti describe as ultra-high-performance. It focuses on enhancing both dry and wet braking distances and utilises Conti’s Black Chili compound which is a braking and cornering aid. The asymmetric tread has large outer blocks to strengthen cornering. The tread innovation is a front-to-back groove system which has a mini block inner edge to aid wet braking and road clearance through the tread.

There are ContiSeal versions which contain a viscous layer which seals punctures from objects up to 5 mm. SSR versions have a sidewall reinforcement which protects the tyre and allows flexibility to travel for a short distance (under 80 km) and at a slowed speed. The ContiSportContact 5 was the precursor to the SportContact 6 and is also a summer tyre. Continental’s other max-performance summer tyre. The expectations have been met for the tyres. I have chosen to stay with the car manufacturers original choice. They have been a joy in the wet, gripping the road well. The only downside I have seen is less grip when it is snowy. I cannot provide any photos because I changed cars in October but stayed with the same model, which now has a different brand. I think I will stick with Continentals when it is time for new ones.
