The Primacy 5 is a summer tyre from Michelin that uses EverGrip Technologies to maintain performance for short stopping distances in the rain, even as the tyre wears. The Primacy 5 also uses an improved design for its grooves that are parallel to the direction of travel. They are 2.4mm wider than the grooves on the Primacy 4+, allowing even more space to redirect water. Michelin even designed a new rubber compound to maintain performance in the rain throughout the life of the tyre. The design of the tread helps the tyre wear evenly.

With the introduction of the Primacy 5, Michelin retires the Primacy 4+. The Primacy 5 will give drivers even more distance, up to 18% more, on the same set of tyres. The Primacy 5 will also perform even better in the rain with stopping distances up to 4% shorter when new, and 6% when worn. The Primacy 5 is available with XL construction that Michelin reinforces to help it carry heavier loads. A major improvement from the original tyres that came with the car. Put on the back. I felt improved handling and stability at the rear in the wet and dry. The car gives a more stable feeling when cornering at high speeds.

I'm very pleased. The grip and comfort seem near identical to the old Primacy 4+. They may slide or lean a bit during tightening cornering but for a touring tyre that isn't meant for performance they are pretty good. They are for sure quieter than my last set. Wet grip is outstanding, no aquaplaning and steady during heavy rain and high speeds. Hopefully they last as long as the previous Primacy 4+ (40,000 miles).

They have done well under both very rainy and very dry conditions. I have yet to experience snow or ice on the road and have not seen how they perform in such conditions.
