The Continental Conti Sport Contact 5 FR is a summer tyre for high performance. Braking performance in both wet and dry conditions is a priority with this tyre. The BlackChili braking grip compound is a key ingredient. For the tread design, a braking grip compound is complemented by a braking grip tread with large outer blocks to support cornering, an outer groove to help channel water exiting the contact patch, and a stiff centre to provide straight line control.

This tyre, which came out in 2011, is the successor to the Conti Sport Contact 3 and was succeeded by the Sport Contact 6. The ‘FR’ designation is for the kerb protection design element which has a rubber lip extending out to the wheel rim. I notice a much better grip on the tyres, particularly when going round tight rural lane bends. I have also noticed that the car maintains grip when sudden braking better.

A very effective tyre, gives good grip and control while braking in the wet and feels good in the wet and dry when cornering. They may wear slightly faster than those that are more nylon, but for grip and performance, they are hard to fault.
