Goodyear UltraGrip Performance G1 is a state-of-the-art winter tyre with an emphasis on traction on snowy and cool, damp roads. The tyre uses a directional tread pattern and a winter rubber compound designed to fall and stay pliable in lower temperatures. The UltraGrip Performance G1 uses Goodyear’s Winter Grip Technology, a specific resin blend geared to stay pliable in low temperatures. SnowProtect Technology forms closely spaced tread blocks to create biting edges for forcible driving and stopping on snowy surfaces.

The 3PMSF marking on the sidewall indicates approval of the tyre for the recognised severe-snow performance standard. An option with reinforced XL construction is available for the transportation of heavier loads. Hydrodynamic Grooves (channels aimed to direct water and slush away from the contact area) allow the tyre to maintain a good level of stability and control on snowy and damp roads, preventing aquaplaning. Having had these tyres in a different size on my previous car, I gladly picked them again as winter tyres for my bigger car. They are really good in snow and water, and their grip is better in cold weather. Sure, the steering might feel a little less direct than with my summer tyres when you're cornering hard, and I think that's completely reasonable. I mean, it's not an issue because these aren't for a sports car, and I'll be driving more cautiously in winter anyway.

In rainy weather, they are great as they drive through puddles without the car losing control. When it is dry, they are not as good as the summer tyres, with somewhat more movement from the tread blocks, but they provide consistent grip.

I bought these Goodyear winter tyres after seeing a favourable review in Auto Express. They have replaced my rather ancient Pirelli Sottozeros on my C350 cdi. I had to go for a slightly higher profile than my car's standard tyres, as they do not make winter versions for that profile. The ride is now more comfortable, and the stickiness in snowy weather is amazing, as I was able to drive without the fear of getting stuck. Most importantly, the stopping distances are much shorter than with the other tyres. The grip on snow and ice was good enough for me to take my rear wheel drive Mercedes rather than my 4x4 Hilux. Performance other than in snowy and icy conditions is good too, although they are a little louder than the normal tyres.

We are very happy with these tyres as we deal with lots of rain and sometimes snow in central Scotland. Living at 475 feet up a hill means reliable tyres are a must, and run-flats give me peace of mind about a puncture! No one wants to get stranded on a busy road!
