History

Founded in 1900 by Harvey S. Firestone, Firestone Tyres (also known as the Firestone Tire & Rubber Company) is a brand of American origin that started life as a supplier of solid rubber tyres for fire apparatus.

Over time, the brand expanded its collection to include wheels for carts and other modes of transport, before bridging into the automobile market. This move into automobile tyre design and production was buoyed by Firestone’s personal friendship with Henry Ford – making Firestone Tyres an original equipment supplier for Ford vehicles.

Firestone Tires was acquired by major Japanese brand Bridgestone in 1988. Since its founding, Firestone Tyres has been recognised as a pioneer in mass production, with the acquisition by Bridgestone exposing the brand and its tyres to further innovation and development. Drivers who choose Firestone Tyres today get good value for money, balancing high-performance driving with premium wet grip, winter design, and more.

Firestone’s Position on the Tyre Market

Firestone Tyres is a mid-range tyre manufacturer, owned by premium brand Bridgestone. This means that Firestone tyres tend to be engineered and built with all the prestige of premium exposure and development, while maintaining its affordable prices.

The brand offers a diverse collection of tyres which include seasonal designs as well as the all-season tyres that are well suited to UK drivers. There are several core innovations and examples of quality tyre technology at play across the Firestone Tyres brand, including UNI-T technology and ENLITEN technology.

UNI-T technology covers tyre construction and tyre shape to optimise durability, longevity and performance. ENLITEN technology is a feature that enhances wet grip to reduce rolling resistance and improve fuel efficiency.

Other technologies worth noting include the advanced silica infused materials, premium tread pattern, and the reliance on eco-friendly manufacturing.

Popular Firestone Tyre Models and Collections

Firestone Tyres has a diverse collection of mid-range tyres available for drivers, covering different terrains and weather conditions, as well as different vehicle types.

With leading vehicle manufacturer Ford citing Firestone as one of its original equipment suppliers, Firestone Tyres boasts an undeniably premium collection of car tyres and passenger tyres. Other vehicle types covered by the brand include motorcycle tyres, truck tyres, and tyres for agricultural machinery, as well as specific SUV tyres, 4x4 tyres, sedan tyres, and more.

Some of the leading and most popular collections boast integrated Firestone technology, benefitting from the premium tyre testing facilities and development of Bridgestone. The Firestone Destination tyres are suitable for off-road precision and safety, while the Firestone Firehawk tyres are designed to optimise the control and cornering of sports cars across wet and dry roads.

Another range is the Transforce tyre collection, supporting heavy duty vehicles and long journeys, while the Weathergrip tyres are built for all weather touring. Firestone Affinity tyres are the go-to for regular drivers seeking a durable tyre with performance and value in mind, and Winterforce is Firestone’s answer to a dedicated winter collection. Other popular ranges include the Firestone Roadhawk tyres and high-performance Firehawk Sport tyres.

With so many different models and collections to choose from, drivers need a way of filtering the different options according to their needs. Which is why we recommend that our UK drivers in particular browse by season.

Firestone has tyres built for year-round driving as well as for dedicated winter and summer driving. The best car tyres for you will depend on your location and climate, vehicle type, and more.

All-season tyres are a suitable option for UK drivers, owing to our temperate climate, with Firestone boasting a selection of all-season tyres that support performance as the weather changes. Benefits of these tyres include reliable grip, year-round cornering and handling performance, and a diverse array of tyre sizes. Popular models which fit into this category include the Destination LE3 tyres, Affinity AS tyres, All Season tyres, Destination A/T2 tyres, and Firehawk AS V2 tyres.

Firestone’s winter tyres are designed to provide extra grip and traction on icy road surfaces, ensuring confident and safe handling across a wide range of vehicles. With the benefits of Firestone’s winter range including the ability to maintain good grip and ensure reliable braking, each tyre balances safety and comfort with performance. Some of the leading winter tyres from the Firestone collection include the Winterforce LT tyres, Winterforce 2 UV, Winterforce 2 and Winterforce CV tyres.

Summer tyres need to ensure good grip and handling on wet and dry roads, especially in the UK with its affinity for rainy summer days. Firestone’s summer range of tyres are all inspired by performance and race driving on a track, boasting exceptional traction with premium control and handling. These benefits are seen throughout the summer tyres collection, which includes the popular Firehawk Indy 500 tyre.
