The Dunlop SP SportMaxx is a summer tyre designed to improve performance at speed and in the corners. It employs a 10-radius tread with the aim of dispersing the pressure more evenly on the contact patch when the tyre is cornering. Dunlop calls this technology Multi-Radius Tread technology. It keeps the entire width of the tread engaged in the corner. To counter the shape of the tyre at high speeds, Dunlop employs their patented Jointless Band technology. It consists of a spiral-wound nylon layer around the belt package, which helps the tyre casing retain its shape.

Dunlop’s Silica-Plus compound helps the tyre maintain performance with good grip on wet roads and improves fuel economy with lower rolling resistance. A few models have the sidewall tags AO or MO. This means they were produced for the Audi or Mercedes-Benz specifications and are not just aftermarket tyres for those cars. I fitted these tyres on my 9-5 HOT Aero and they did great in the wet. They don't corner quite as sharply as the Michelin PS2 in the dry, but with the £30 saving per tyre, they are well worth it. The front tyres have done about 10,000 miles which is pretty good I think for a powerful front wheel drive car, and now it is time to replace them. I will be getting another two shortly. I had to buy different sets of tyres as Goodyear does not make a 275 35 19 in extra load. It's unfortunate that I didn't check this before my front tyres were done. I normally like to have matching tyres all round, but this time I was unable to do that. Removing the run flats has noticeably improved both the handling and the ride quality. I now have 2 Good Years and 2 Dunlops, all in extra load and the result is excellent.
