The Continental Sport Contact 5 is a premium summer tyre. The BlackChili compound used provides impressive braking and cornering control. The Sport Contact 5 uses an asymmetric tread design. Larger tread blocks are placed on the outer edge for cornering and braking support. Centre tread blocks stiffen at high speeds and a steady line is maintained by the centre ribs. The 3D grooves remove water from the contact patch.

The Sport Contact 5’s successor is the SportContact 6. The SportContact 6 also comes in ContiSeal and SSR constructions. ContiSeal tyres have a sealing layer beneath the tread which seals punctures up to 5mm. SSR (Self Supporting Runflat) tyres are constructed with reinforced sidewalls that support the vehicle after a loss of air pressure. I've always fitted these tyres on my car, so I know how they perform. They provide a stable and grippy drive as my only complaint is that they can be a little noisy at times but is a small price to pay for the confidence and performance they offer.

When I first got the car I fitted the same tyres as the originals. The fronts wore down after 50,000 miles but the rears still have lots of tread. I suppose cheaper options are tempting, but you really do get what you pay for.
